Okay so that might be a bit dramatic considering that February isn’t even over yet, but I have read 13 books so far this year and most of them have been 3 star reads. Now, I’m not saying that 3 star reads are bad. When I give a book 3 stars, it means that I thought the book was a decent read. Not an amazing read, not my new favourite book, but also not terrible. Simply put, for me, a 3 star read is a normal, average read. Now you might be wondering, “what’s wrong with having a bunch of 3 star reads?” and in truth, the answer is nothing. Every year I read a lot of books that I end up rating 3 stars. My main issue with my reading this year (keeping in mind that we are still in February), is that I haven’t had a single 5 star read.
Out of my 13 reads, I have given one – 1 star, one – 2 star, 7 – 3 star, 2 – 4 star, and two books that I did not rate. I don’t expect every book I read to be a 5 star read, however it would be nice to have read one of them by now. I feel like my reading has hit a bit of a rut. Not that I think I’m in a reading slump, I’m still reading, but my reads aren’t hooking my interest in the way that I want. Hopefully, this blog will help me with this.
I want to try and make my reading exciting again. This blog, if I stick with it, should aid me in this journey. I want to explore genres that I don’t usually read, romance, historical fiction, non-fiction, etc. by encouraging myself to read them through fun little challenges and experiments. Maybe I’ll read some of the most popular romance reads on Goodreads, or else I might look at my favourite BookTubers and see how much our reading tastes actually match. Whatever I do, I want to reach the mid-point of this year with a 5 star read. I mean, ideally I would like more than one 5 star read, but as a bare minimum one would be nice.
Anyways, that’s all I have to say on my reading (for the moment). I’m sure I’ll be back soon enough once I’ve thought about how to expand my reading life and hunt down my 5 star read. Until next time, xx.
